Opening of School Details
We look forward to seeing our first and second graders on Wednesday, August 26th for a half day (8:40 am - 11:40 am). The bus service will begin on this day. Thursday, August 27th begins our normal full day schedule (8:40 am - 3:00 pm). Kindergarten conferences will be held during this first week and the official first day of school for our kindergarten children is Tuesday, September 1st.

Please note the following medical record requirements for the schools. Should you have questions, please call the South School office at 847-835-6400.
Illinois law now requires proof of an eye examination by an optometrist or physician who provides complete eye exams be submitted as a child enters kindergarten or is new to an Illinois school. The exam must be completed within one year prior to your child beginning school. All forms must be turned in by October 15th. Download the EYE EXAM form here.
All children in kindergarten, sixth grade and new to the district must provide the school with documentation of a completed health exam within 1 year prior to the start of the school year. All forms must be turned in by October 15th. Download the HEALTH EXAM form here.
All children in kindergarten, second and sixth grade must provide the school with documentation of a completed dental exam within 1 year prior to the start of the school year. All forms must be turned in by May 15th. Download the DENTAL EXAM form here.
Bus Registration
Bus registration for the 2009-10 school year began on Monday, February 23, 2009. Please visit the District website (www.glencoeschools.org). You can register online (if paying by Visa or Mastercard) OR download the appropriate forms (if paying by check) and mail your registration. You can also register in person at the Business Office located inside Central School. Please note that registrations (other than Park District ONLY) must be received in the Business Office by 4:30 p.m. on May 27, 2009. Registrations received after that time (other than Park District ONLY) will be subject to a $75 late fee. Registrations received after June 30, 2009 will be subject to a $75 late fee and no guarantee of ridership start date. Financial assistance is available if you qualify. Crossing Guards
Glencoe Public Safety is interviewing for crossing guards. If you are interested or know of someone who may be interested please contact Michael Volling at Glencoe Public Safety (847-835-4112 EXT 132).
Directory Information
The school district may release directory information regarding students to be used in compiling the student directory. This information includes the following:
Student Name
Address
Parent/Guardian Names and Addresses
Telephone Number
Grade
Teacher/Advisor
Student pictures without identifying information are frequently posted on the district web page with informational pieces.
Any parent(s)/guardian(s) may prohibit the release of any or all of the above by delivering a written objection to the Building Principal by August 21, 2009.
Summer Reading
As summer is here, it is important to set a consistent time for your child to read each day. Studies show that students who do not read over the summer can experience a loss in reading skills. Children who continue to read during the summer can actually gain reading skills.
Motivate your child to read over the summer months by getting them hooked on a specific book series. Children love the satisfaction of finishing a book and going to the library or bookstore to choose another.

Don't Delay...File your Transportation Claims by June 30th!
Parent/Guardian State Pupil Transportation Reimbursement Claims for the 2008-2009 school year are required to be filed by June 30, 2009. In order to complete a claim, please visit our school office to share the necessary information with the office staff. Please be prepared to share the mileage from your home to South School for the reimbursement form. For additional details on qualifications, please download the Transportation Claim information.

If you have changes in your street or email addresses, telephone numbers, emergency contact information, etc., please notify both Denyse Cannon at the Board Office at 835-7812 or cannond@glencoeschools.org and Margot Flanagin for the PTO at 242-0341 or MandDKaps@aol.com They will enter the changes into the databases maintained for the school district and PTO directory. We appreciate your assistance in keeping this important information up to date.
