Summer Explorations 2010
Registration for District 35 Summer Explorations 2010 will begin on March 17th and continue through Friday, April 30th. Starting on March 12th, please visit our website to preview the class offerings and times at summerschool.glencoeschools.org.Walk-in registration is welcome in the Board of Education office within Central School.

Spring Break!

Run for the Glencoe School Caucus!
The Glencoe Caucus School Nominating Committee is a group of about 20 Glencoe citizens elected to work together to interview and select candidates for the School Board of District 35. Glencoe Haitian Relief Fund
Glencoe community members are establishing The Glencoe Haitian Relief Fund for Haitian members of our community to help them support their families in Haiti who were directly affected by the earthquake.

The Glencoe Haitian Relief Fund will provide support directly to these families in need through their relatives who work in Glencoe and whom many of us have come to know. One hundred percent of monies collected in Glencoe will go directly to help these Haitian families rebuild their lives.

Transportation News!
We are pleased to announce a simplified bus fee structure, which includes one uniform fee for all riders regardless of distance from school. An improved service plan for Central School students is also included for the 2010-2011 school year.

Highlights include:

Glencoe Cub Scout Pack 28 is holding its annual Scouting for Food from Monday, March 8th until Friday, March 12th, Cub Scouts in Glencoe Pack 28 will join thousands of other Scouts in Lake County and northern Cook County on a critical mission to collect food donations needed to restock local food pantries. Please consider helping by bringing some non- perishable food to school with you. Our Pack will collect the food and deliver it to our local food pantries. Due to the current economic uncertainty, food pantries are experiencing an increase in the number of families seeking help this year. Donations may be dropped off in the boxes at West School, The Glencoe Library and Takiff Center.

As a reminder:
"On August 6, 2009, Governor Quinn signed into law House Bill 71 and House Bill 72. The new laws ban motorists from sending text messages while driving in Illinois, and make it illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction zone or school zone. In addition, it is illegal to compose, send or read text messages, instant messages and e-mail on a cell phone or surf the internet while driving. The ban also includes personal digital assistants and portable or mobile computers, but does not include global positioning systems (GPS) or navigation systems."

The Glencoe PTO Housewalk will be held this year on Wednesday, May 19th. Please visit the PTO Website for further information and to purchase tickets.
Proceeds from all Housewalk events support environmental, arts and social-emotional learning projects in the Glencoe schools. These projects are integrated into the curriculum and teach children that their actions – whether it’s the way they treat the planet, people from other cultures, or their friends – affect their community and the world. The first and second graders have been learning about Internet Safety during Library classes. Information has been emailed home and each child brought additional information home in their backpacks. Kindergarten Students will be learning about this important topic in late February.

Spring is right around the corner, time to start thinking about Glencoe Baseball!!! 1st and 2nd Grade Girls and Boys, come one come all!! Learn the FUNdamentals of baseball and enjoy playing on a team with your friends. Practices and games start in early April, season ends in early June. Clear the Air!
Keeping the air clean is especially important for children — pound for pound, they breathe in more air and more pollutants than adults. Cut your emissions by reducing idling outside of schools and motivating others to do the same. Turn off the car when waiting to pick up or drop off children, and encourage kids to walk or ride bikes whenever possible.
