Transportation News!
We are pleased to announce a simplified bus fee structure, which includes one uniform fee for all riders regardless of distance from school. An improved service plan for Central School students is also included for the 2010-2011 school year.
Highlights include:
Kindergarten-4th grade:
1-fee for 2-way ridership that can accommodate transportation to/from the Takiff Community Center on days your children opt for these after-school programs.
5th-8th grade:
Choose a.m. service and/or p.m. service to best meet your family’s needs.
The new Central School p.m. bus service offers a 3:30 p.m. departure time. Note the new lower rate allows you to use this option for your child’s after-school transportation plans.

No Cell Phone Use While Driving in a School Zone
As a reminder: "On August 6, 2009, Governor Quinn signed into law House Bill 71 and House Bill 72. The new laws ban motorists from sending text messages while driving in Illinois, and make it illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction zone or school zone. In addition, it is illegal to compose, send or read text messages, instant messages and e-mail on a cell phone or surf the internet while driving. The ban also includes personal digital assistants and portable or mobile computers, but does not include global positioning systems (GPS) or navigation systems."

Green Tip for the Week
Clear the Air!
Keeping the air clean is especially important for children — pound for pound, they breathe in more air and more pollutants than adults. Cut your emissions by reducing idling outside of schools and motivating others to do the same. Turn off the car when waiting to pick up or drop off children, and encourage kids to walk or ride bikes whenever possible.
REPORTING VS. TATTLING
We are sharing a link with you so that you may learn the language we are using here at South to teach children the difference between reporting and tattling. Click here to download a poster for your home to help your children solve conflicts with their brothers and sisters!
