Building Strong Readers in K–2
In District 35, we are committed to building strong, confident readers from the very start. Grounded in the Science of Reading, our approach reflects the latest research on how children learn to read—and how we can best support them.
During the 2022–2023 school year, our K–4 educators engaged in a comprehensive review of our Foundational Reading Skills and classroom instructional routines to ensure every student receives the essential building blocks for literacy success.

We’d like to share our policy regarding phones and smartwatches (e.g. Gizmos, Apple Watch) at school. We understand this serves as a useful tool to communicate with your child. However, we kindly ask that students turn their personal devices off and store them in their backpack so they are “Away for the Day.” Please know that changes in your child’s dismissal will be communicated with your child directly. If you need something during school hours, please call or email or call the school office.
